The selection process usually takes place twice a year (July and November) and the requirements are published at least 2 months before the selection. Specific rules may vary from year to year, due to interests of the university and the Program, so we ask the applicant to read the requirements carefully. For the 2017 Selection Process, a qualifying test in the program fields is applied, as well as a foreign language test and an evaluation of candidate background/projects by an examining committee. All applicants, regardless of whether or not they need scholarships, should take the general knowledge test.
Do I need to go to the city of Campinas to take the test?
Not necessarily. In exceptional cases of students from distant states with potential for the areas of Physiology and Biochemistry, we will send the test to a nearby educational and/or research institution. In this case, the applicant should contact us in advance for the required arrangements and test application at a higher education institution that is close to the candidate.
What should an applicant study for the general knowledge test?
Suggested topics and bibliography to be studied for the general knowledge test that is part of the PPG-BFM selection process. Important: the list above is only a suggestion, and related and current themes may be addressed that are not necessarily included in this list.
Is the test available in Portuguese only?
No, foreign applicants can take the test in Spanish or English, which should be informed at the time of student application, according to the program requirements for the selection process.
I’m not from Brazil, what should I do?
The Biology Institute has an international office (Cain-IB; +55 19 3521-1439, internationalofficeib@unicamp.br) whose mission is to assist non-Brazilian students and professors who want to come to Brazil and apply for the program.
